The Blog to Transform Advanced Care
Advancing Care through Innovation, Observation and Collaboration.
Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition believes there’s no place like home. The organization’s mission is to provide support services to help older adults and adults with disabilities stay living independently in their homes for as long as possible.
Many of Verde Valley’s clients can no longer drive due to age limitations, mobility challenges, or chronic illnesses. They all want to stay living in their homes with their possessions and where memories were made. With supportive services, they can live three to five years longer.
The Coalition’s biggest service is transportation to medical appointments, physical therapy, dialysis, the grocery store, and assistance with other important errands. They also provide medication pick-up and will shop for homebound clients. To help maintain a person’s quality of life, the organization provides business assistance, handy person help, pet assistance, and loan emergency alert units for adults at risk for falling.
For high-needs clients, their care coordination program ensures clients have food and other necessities and connects them with community resources for housing, clothing, financial assistance, and in-home care.
Most services are provided by 130 dedicated volunteers, and in 2017, Verde Valley was recognized as the #1 Volunteer Transportation Program in the nation. Most services are provided at no charge because 71% of clients live at or below the poverty level. The Coalition relies on funding from individuals, grantors, and state and local municipalities.
About to celebrate 30 years of service, the vision of Verde Valley Caregiver Coalition is to create a caring, age-friendly community for all. The Coalition wants to enrich the quality of life for seniors by partnering with the community to provide more social outings and cultural activities to combat loneliness. They also want to find ways to support clients suffering from mental illnesses.
Verde Valley hopes that C-TAC membership will boost an awareness of the needs and challenges seniors face as they age in place.
