Obamacare Architect Is Top Pick to Lead Value-Based Care Office

Elizabeth Fowler, who led the drafting and implementation of the Affordable Care Act, is the frontrunner to serve as Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), Bloomberg Law reported.

During the Obama Administration, Fowler served as Deputy Director of Policy at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight Office. She also served as a Special Assistant on Health Care and Economic Policy with the National Economic Council. Since leaving the administration, she has held executive leadership positions at the Commonwealth Fund and Johnson & Johnson.

C-TAC looks forward to continuing our work with CMMI to develop and implement payment models that support people with serious illness and their families.

Biden-Harris Administration to Ship COVID-19 Vaccines Directly to Community Health Centers

The Biden-Harris Administration will begin sending COVID-19 vaccines directly to federally-qualified community health centers, according to update shared at a Feb. 9 press briefing.

Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, head of the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force, said that the initial program phase will reach 250 community health centers and allocate 1 million doses. As the program scales, the goal will be to make vaccines available to any of the 1,400 community health centers nationwide that want to participate.

C-TAC applauds this action by the Biden-Harris Administration to support community health centers, which provide crucial services for people with serious illness across the country.
