The Blog to Transform Advanced Care

Advancing Care through Innovation, Observation and Collaboration.

President Joe Biden has selected Chiquita Brooks-LaSure as his nominee to serve as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), according to the Washington Post and other news outlets.

Brooks-LaSure served at CMS during the Obama Administration, where she was involved in launching the Affordable Care Act and was Deputy Director of the agency’s health insurance office. During the presidential transition, Brooks-LaSure served as a lead for President Biden’s HHS review team. Most recently, she served as Managing Director at healthcare consulting firm Manatt Ventures. Throughout her career, she has earned a strong reputation for working to advance health equity for underserved groups.

“C-TAC is pleased to see that Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a health policy expert and veteran of CMS, has been chosen to lead the agency,” says C-TAC Executive Director Jon Broyles. “We look forward to working alongside the Biden Administration to improve the lives of people with serious illness and their families and tackle the inequities that the sickest and most vulnerable continue to face in our health care system.”

Brooks-LaSure also worked with the House Ways and Means Committee, where she built ties with then-Rep. Xavier Becerra, President Biden’s choice to lead the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department. Becerra’s key confirmation hearings are now scheduled for Feb. 23 (in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee) and Feb. 24 (in the Senate Finance Committee).

President Biden has not formally announced the selection of Brooks-LaSure. C-TAC will keep our members and partners updated throughout the confirmation process.
