The challenges in senior health care are many, from ever-changing regulations to attracting a qualified workforce to ensuring the satisfaction of residents and their families with quality care and service. Avera eCARE Senior Care is dedicated to providing virtual health care to meet these current challenges as well as those presenting in our new normal.

With 24/7 access to a team of geriatric-trained professionals, Avera eCARE Senior Care can improve access to health care services while enhancing the quality of care and quality of life for residents and staff at senior living facilities via telemedicine.

We deliver healthcare to wherever the resident calls home so they can be treated where they’re comfortable – in fact, over 90% of urgent care telemedicine encounters result in treatment in place. This eliminates unnecessary transfers thus saving thousands of dollars for each patient transfer avoided which adds up to millions of dollars saved over time.

Avera eCARE Senior Care provides 24/7 telemedicine services to support skilled nursing facilities, assisted living campuses, independent living locations and home health agencies and clients. The service offers on-demand access to geriatric-trained experts and an interdisciplinary medical team including geriatricians, providers, pharmacists, behavioral health specialists, social workers, RNs and more through two-way, real-time audio-visual technology.

“Our results validate that we’re meeting these important needs through Avera eCARE Senior Care,” Josh Hofmeyer, Avera eCARE Senior Care Officer said.  “We conducted a pilot project through a three-year Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation award. We showed that we could save $342 per beneficiary per month,” Hofmeyer said.

In other surveys eCARE Senior Care reached 98.8 percent of patient satisfaction from residents that say they would recommend eCARE services to others following an eCARE video encounter. Also, 97.8 percent of facility staff rated the overall eCARE video encounter as “excellent” or “good”.

We are reimagining health care for senior living facilities by:

  • Filling coverage gaps that assist local teams and providers;
  • Providing access to a geriatric-trained team for on-demand collaboration;
  • Bringing urgent care and other clinical capabilities into resident rooms where they can be treated in place;
  • Offering wound care services, care transitions support, pharmacy reviews, advance care planning and psychiatric assessments.

The demand for reimagined care continues to increase in the U.S. with the retirement of the 77 million strong Baby Boomer generation. It’s estimated that roughly 10,000 people are turning 65 each day.
