The Blog to Transform Advanced Care

Advancing Care through Innovation, Observation and Collaboration.

Today, President Trump signed the Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020 into law, reauthorizing the Older Americans Act (OAA) through 2024. We commend lawmakers for preserving the Aging Network’s ability to meet the needs of older adults and their families in communities across the United States.

From meal delivery to workforce training related to elder care, the OAA supports a variety of home- and community-based services for older adults and their caregivers. C-TAC worked closely with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) to develop language in the law that enhances the Aging Network providers’ capacity to set priorities and care plans in their communities. The Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020 also provides more tailored support for family caregivers and empowers local organizations to address social isolation among seniors.

The supports provided by the Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020 will also play a key role in aiding seniors and their loved ones as they navigate the ongoing spread of COVID-19. The passing of this law comes amid a flurry of activity in Congress as lawmakers work together to help Americans as they face this public health emergency.

“C-TAC is delighted that the Supporting Older Americans Act of 2020 has been signed into law,” said C-TAC Executive Director Jon Broyles. “We applaud n4a, as well as our champions in Congress and the Administration for their leadership and support of this bipartisan, bicameral legislation which will ensure that the Aging Network has the support it needs for years to come.”

“We look forward to working alongside our partners to ensure that community-based organizations in the Aging Network have access to the resources and guidance needed to deliver high-quality care for those with serious illness and their families,” said Broyles.
