C-TAC is proud to welcome Patrick T. Courneya, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for National Health Plan and Hospitals Quality at Kaiser Permanente, to our Board of Directors.
“With his experience as a healthcare executive and a leading clinician, Pat will be a valuable addition to our board,” said C-TAC Co-Chair Bill Novelli. “We look forward to working with him on our mission of ensuring that all Americans living with advanced illness receive high-quality, person-centered care.”
Dr. Courneya oversees Kaiser Permanente’s national quality agenda and advocates for the advancement of proven innovation and evidence-based medicine for the industry. He also helps to ensure that the organization’s members and communities receive the best quality and service that Kaiser Permanente offers. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Courneya served as Medical Director and Associate Medical Director at HealthPartners Health Plan for 10 years.
In addition to his work with Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Courneya serves as a commissioner with the California Future Health Workforce Commission, which aims to recruit, educate and sustain a diverse health workforce in order to deliver high-quality care to Californians. In a 2018 interview with C-TAC, Dr. Courneya explained that the commission sees the future of healthcare as being “much closer to the patient, where they are, including in the home, using virtual/digital connections and extending more effectively into underserved areas, both urban and rural.” Dr. Courneya also sits on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness of California.
Beyond California, Dr. Courneya has played a substantial role in furthering innovation and improving health care quality on a national level, chairing the Chief Medical Officer Leadership Council at America’s Health Insurance Plans and the Medical Directors Council at the Alliance of Community Health Plans.
Dr. Courneya also has a wealth of clinical experience, having worked as a family practice physician for 25 years. He remains board-certified in Family Practice.
