The Blog to Transform Advanced Care

Advancing Care through Innovation, Observation and Collaboration.

My First National Summit

Katherine Evans Immediate Past President, GAPNA

My first experience with C-TAC’s Annual Summit left me with a sense of awe.  I came to the Summit to represent the Gerontological Advance Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) in establishing and reinforcing partnership with C-TAC’s member organizations. The sheer number of leaders from the palliative care and serious illness space was overwhelming.

The networking opportunities provided ample opportunity to meet other leaders as well as to engage with current colleagues. I was fortunate to meet Eric De Jonge, President of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine (AAHCM), with whom I had a robust discussion on ways our two organizations could work together. Dr. De Jonge will now be attending the GAPNA Annual Conference and providing a keynote presentation to our membership. While our organizations had collaborated previously, this event provided a new opportunity to strengthen our existing relationship.

Finally, the Summit offered an incredible amount of insight into the current issues facing providers, and outlined many innovative solutions to improve care for those with serious illness. In short, this event is ideal for anyone working with patients facing serious illness, with much to be gained from both a clinical and systems perspective. As GAPNA enters its second year of membership, I look forward to this year’s Summit to continue to strengthen relationships with our partners, create new connections with innovators and change makers, and stay abreast of the current strategies for improving care for those who need it most.
