The Blog to Transform Advanced Care
Advancing Care through Innovation, Observation and Collaboration.
This week, C-TAC submitted the following comments on the Department of Health and Human Services’s (HHS) draft Strategic Plan for FY 2018-2022:
- Consumer decision-making – We support the Department’s strategy to strengthen informed consumer decision-making as it is the foundation of person-centered care. C-TAC also supports HHS’s plan to test new payment models and urges the Department to include models that serve those living with advanced illness, much like C-TAC’s Advanced Care Model.
- Advance care planning – The strategic plan mentions advance care planning and it is critical that the Department recognizes the benefits it provides to, not only those at the end of life, but those living with advanced illness at any stage.
- Efficient delivery of care – We recommend that HHS and CMS work to develop quality and regulatory structures to ensure the effective delivery of care to those living with advanced illness, including better and more person-centered measures for this population.
Finally, former Senate Majority Leaders, and Co-Chairs of C-TAC’s Fourth Annual Summit on Advanced Illness Care, Bill Frist and Tom Daschle recently penned an open letter to Congress about the Alexander-Murray legislative package designed to stabilize the individual insurance market. That letter can be read here.
